It's over
Well, the Maternal Unit just called, wanting to know "what she had done, and what she could do to make this right." She also wanted to invite me to lunch tomorrow.
*Headdesk*
I told her there was nothing she could do, we're done. "Nothing?!" she said, astonishment in her voice. I didn't hear the rest of it; I hung up.
I told our nextdoor neighbor the other day how my stress levels have dropped dramatically, and my physical well-being has increased dramatically, since I finally made the decision to cease all contact with the Maternal Unit. It's been a long time coming. No more "mental gymnastics". No more pretending. No more tapdancing around the Maternal Unit's hairtrigger emotions.
Whew.
