nightshade1972: (Default)
Well, I have had an interesting afternoon.

At about 3pm, Charity, the chick who did the dual prisms on my eyeglasses called me.  I had to remind her specifically who I was (not her fault, she sees lots of patients) and bring her back up to speed on my medical history, then she remembered me (whew).  She recommended that I remove the film from the backs of my lenses.  She said I'd notice right away if my vision got better or worse without the prisms.

My vision improved significantly.

She also told me she'd get a hold of Dr. Price's office to set up a refractive exam, which is what Dr. Price *should* have done yesterday.  For the uninitiated, that's where they do a full eye exam--dilation of pupils, and the machine they put over your eyes where they say "which is better, one *click* or two?" and you have to tell them if the first focusing of the "eyeglasses" is sharper or duller.  They keep doing that for about a half dozen *clicks* until they decide that's the best they can do for you.  They record that information, and that's what you give to JCPenney Optical or whoever when you go to pick out your new eyeglass frames.

The problem with yesterday is that, before I saw Dr. Price, I was vetted by his little medical assistant chick who looked to be *maybe* half my age (gawd, I'm getting old).  And I couldn't make her understand that I wasn't coming in for anything having to do with "double vision" at all.  Now, it's tricky to make other ppl understand what you can or can't see, particularly if you have no accurate frame of reference for what *they* can or can't see.  But I do know what double vision means, and I also know I've never had that problem.  But apparently prismatic film/lenses is used most commonly to treat double vision, so obviously, in her mind, that must be what I was coming in for.  I wanted to smack her.  So then Dr. Price comes in, looks me over briefly, then tells me I need to deal with Charity for anything else.

So when I talked to Charity this afternoon, once she recalled who I was, she was totally kerflummoxed as to why they didn't do a refractive exam on me yesterday.  As was I.  So she got a hold of Dr. Price's office, they called me, then they called hubby, and now I have a new appt set up.  I hope the improvement in my vision, sans prisms, keeps up until next week.
