We took Caitlin, my mitted sealpoint ragdoll, to the vet yesterday.  We took her to a place called Just Cats--I thought she might get better treatment than if we just went to a "regular" vet.  We took her because she's been "eliminating inappropriately"--urinating well outside her box (generally anywhere in the living room she feels like it), and defecating within about six inches of her box.

She was eighteen pounds at her heaviest, a couple of months ago she was sixteen pounds, and she seemed to have lost more weight recently.  She's down to thirteen pounds now.

They ran bloodwork; turns out she's diabetic.  They also gave me some drops that will supposedly lessen the wax buildup in her ears.  They also think we should have a second litterbox (she and Simba share one, when we had Kato all three of them used the same box without incident), and we should change her diet from dry Purina One to canned Purina Pro Plan.

Then things got a little weird.  It wasn't until we got home that I realized the eardrop box said "for canine use only, NOT to be used in cats".  In several places.  So I didn't give her any drops last night, and I emailed the vet telling them why.  They called me this morning (woke me up, actually) to tell me about the diabetes--apparently she's going to need insulin injections for the forseeable future.  I asked them again about the "for canines only" thing, and they swear on a stack it's nothing to worry about, so I gave Caitlin the drops this morning, then again about an hour ago.

So in the last two days we've spent close to five hundred bucks on Caitlin.  Vet visit yesterday was almost $300 (the Maternal Unit about fainted when I told her), and the insulin, syringes, etc at the local Walgreen's was about $130.
